Rip Rhymes (formerly known as MC Hydro Phonics) is a trailblazing artist whose career took off with the creation of the hip hop group 4Dub, alongside Akil The MC of Jurassic 5 fame. Together, they made history as the first international hip hop group to perform in Cambodia and to rock Bangkok’s legendary Countdown celebration in front of 200,000 people.
Rip’s journey began early. As a teenager in the United States, Hydro Phonics won a national competition for a song about not drinking and driving on prom night. The track, “Stop Before You Get Started,” became the theme for the nationwide Prom Promise Campaign. From there, his ascent was unstoppable, leading to appearances on TV shows, commercials, and films in the U.S., while finding even more fame across Asia.
In Thailand he had the 1st English/ Thai #1 song on Fat Radio. He hosted 2 popular TV shows, produced music, and collaborated with major artists, including HRH Princess Ubolratana Rajakanya of Thailand. His hip hop radio show “FOUNDATION” on UB Radio became a cultural staple, and aside from 4Dub he toured the continent with DJ Tech 12 as part of the The Ghetto Blasters, the dynamic DJ and MC duo responsible for some of the biggest Hip Hop parties in Asia over the last decade. The Ghetto Blasters established a reputation for throwing legendary parties such as "Twist it up", "Fat Black Pussycat", and "Sucka Free Sundays” @ the legendary Q-Bar.
They have also had the privilege of working alongside some of the biggest names in the music industry such as The Black Eyed Peas, Public Enemy, DJ Cash Money, Grandmaster Flash, DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Craze, Kelis, De La Soul, Kraft Kuts, Dialated People's, A-Track, Akil The MC, Mopreme Shakur, The Two Live Crew, DJ Spinbad, and DJ Snake just to name a few.
However, just before 4Dub’s & the Ghetto Blasters next big tour, Hydro was diagnosed with cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome, forcing him to reduce his marijuana intake. Realizing the MC Hydro Phonics persona no longer aligned with his new reality, he had to find a different version of his artistic self. That was done by getting back to his southern roots. Thus, Rip Rhymes was born—a new chapter, a more authentic self, and a refreshed creative force.
Now partnered with DJ Dank Williams, Rip Rhymes is ready to hit the road, bringing an electrifying, global party-rocking experience to clubs and festivals near you.
